Speaking to kids about ability

From time to time, I have the opportunity to speak to young people about living with limb loss. Those are the best times of all. I was asked once by a first-grader, “What if you have a prosthetic head.” If you can’t have fun talking to children about being part-cyborg, there’s no hope for you.IMG_3887

I’m especially grateful to La Jolla Country Day School for hosting me twice this year and for their generous support of Challenged Athletes Foundation, a cause near and dear to me. I’m equally grateful to the Encinitas Union School District for allowing me to speak to their kids at Oak Knoll, Flora Vista and Mission Estancia elementary schools.

The children are, in fact, the future. I think we’re in good hands.
